- Northern Velebit is the youngest Croatian national park, founded in 1999. It was intended to include the most attractive and naturally most valuable areas of the northern part of Velebit.
- Risnjak is a wooded mountain massif near the city of Rijeka, named after the lynx, its most popular inhabitant.
- Only in the Medvednica Nature Park can you adopt a bat for 150 kunas and thus help these protected species to survive in their habitat – the unique Veternica cave. The cave was created in the karst “pocket” of the southwest part of Medvednica, by the sinking of water from the area of Ponikve alongside the cracks in the rock.
