Kopački rit Nature Park

It is officially the first Nature Park in Croatia and covers an area of more than 17,700 hectares, which is almost 177 square kilometers.

There are many reasons why you should visit this wonder of nature, and just some of the reasons are more than 140 species of birds inhabiting the nature park area, great biodiversity with more than 2000 species and a spectacular landscape that will simply leave you breathless. Đakovo Cathedral

Đakovo Cathedral is among the youngest in Croatia. At the same time it is the easternmost Episcopal Catholic Church, along the border of East and West. The cathedral is a building masterpiece, and its interior is magnificent. Gothic and Romanesque styles are perfectly intertwined. The interior of the cathedral is adorned with many frescoes created by the hands of the world’s greatest masters of the time. In this part of Croatia there is a saying – “Đakovo is the heart of Slavonia – the cathedral is the heart of Đakovo!”The cathedral is just that in its meaning, in its geographical position and symbolically.

Papuk Nature Park

We suggest that you visit the most beautiful part of Papuk, which is the park-forest Jankovac, one of the most popular Slavonian resorts. In addition to the beautiful forest and endless meadows, you will be enchanted by the Jankovački waterfall. Also, the Rupnica site is the first geological monument of nature in Croatia – protected due to the appearance of the columnar eruption of volcanic rocks and also represents a geological uniqueness in our country.

Tvrđa Osijek

If you are visiting Osijek it is a recommendation to visit the ancient Fortress – Tvrđa Osijek and go through the Water Gate to the Drava. The Osijek Fortress complex was built in the 18th century with imposing city walls and the baroque buildings within it. Today there are still numerous cafes, schools, museums, galleries, so you can feel the vibrancy of the city. Actually, Osijek was the most important military, economic, administrative, and cultural center of Slavonia and still remains today. Unfortunately, the destruction of the war is still visible. However, every year more and more money is being invested in reconstruction.

Brod Fortress and the Franciscan Monastery

In the period from 1715 to 1780, Austria built the great Imperial and Royal Slavonian frontier fortress Brod on the river Sava. Brod Fortress was once intended to accommodate 4,000 soldiers and 150 cannons. One of the attractions of Slavonski Brod is also the Baroque Franciscan monastery which is one of the most impressive Baroque buildings in Slavonia. With its cloister, it is one of the most representative examples of monastic architecture in northern Croatia. Also, Slavonski Brod is the second-largest city in this part of Croatia.

Prandau – Mailath Castle in Donji Miholjac

One of the first larger buildings in Donji Miholjac. The castle was built in 1818 for the noble family Prandau. The building was built in the late Baroque style. It has a total of two lounges, fourteen rooms, and several kitchens and pantries. A greenhouse for tropical and winter plants was built in the park around the castle. The construction of the new castle began in 1903 after the visit of Emperor Francis Joseph to Donji Miholjac. The administrator of the Miholjac manor, Count Ladislav Mailath built it in English Tudor style.

Prandau-Normann castle in Valpovo

The extremely picturesque and stylishly layered complex of the Prandau-Normann castle in Valpovo consists of a medieval tower with part of the ramparts of the former fortress, a court chapel, side courtyard wings, an inner courtyard, and a Baroque-Classicist front palace. The castle has housed the Valpovo Regional Museum since 1956, which has about 3,000 exhibits in several collections. Along with the castle, explore the Valpovo park, which is one of the most valuable historical parks in continental Croatia.

Castle Pejačević in Našice

Našice, a city with a long history, has many cultural and historical monuments. The castle of the Pejačević family is one of the most beautiful buildings in this area. Their two castles and the family tomb chapel in the town area are remarkable for their beauty and cultural-historical value while in the center of the town there is one of the biggest protected complexes of public gardens of the north-east Croatia, which the Pejačević family founded in 19th century.

Castle Tikveš

It was built in the spirit of Romantic Historicism in the second half of the 19th century. Around the castle, there is a park and promenade connected to a hunting villa built in the manner of country architecture. During its rich history, the castle in Tikveš was a hunting center visited by members of the noble Teschen lineage, the Habsburg lineage, later by members of the Karađorđević dynasty and many others.

Lipik and Đakovo Stud

Last on the list of 10 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Slavonia. The Lipizzaner stud farm in Đakovo was founded in 1506 and is among the oldest in Europe. They proudly point out that the Queen of England, Elizabeth II. delighted with the performance of the Đakovo Lipizzaners at the opening of the Olympic Games, in 1972 she visited the stud farm and took a ride on the well-known four-wheeler of the Đakovo stud farm.

The inhabitants of Lipik are certainly proud of the Lipik stud farm, founded in 1938, but it has its roots in 1919. The Stud Farm Lipik was destroyed in a criminal act at the beginning of the Homeland War when its premises were destroyed and burnt down by grenades.
