ZOI Split, a typically Mediterranean restaurant with a specific location

On the walls of Diocletian’s Palace, the symbol of Split, is situated a restaurant named ZOI Split. The restaurant is specific because of the location. The closed part of the restaurant is located on the first floor, but the main part of this restaurant is the terrace. This is the place where it is most delicious to enjoy a good bottle of wine during hot summer days. The view from there is really magnificent. We could say this is the place where history and food come together.

Mediterranean Cuisine

The food in the restaurant is typically the Mediterranean. They didn’t focus only on Croatian food. The offer is a mix of dishes from French, Greek, and other Mediterranean countries. Whatever we tried the quality of the food was very good. The big attention is given to the selection of quality wines. In the menu, there are 84 different types of wine. Furthermore, the beer offer is also very good quality.

About name ZOI Split

As a Croat, I was also impressed by the very strange name of the restaurant – ZOI. By searching their official website we found the answer to the question – why? ZOI is actually a Greek word for life. Another interesting fact is that the restaurant is located on the part of the wall where the Roman emperor had an apartment. Near to the restaurant is the entrance to the Diocletian’s basement where you can discover a part of that rich history.

Michelin Cuisine and Service

Definitely, as the biggest disadvantage of this restaurant is the winter period. Stay on the terrace becomes too cold and there are not so many people. Additionally, the prices are slightly higher than the restaurants in the surrounding area. In the end, I would like to point out that the service was good and friendly. Btw, Michelin recommends ZOÍ Split.

Pizzeria Bokamorra, the best pizza in the city of Split

At the beginning of the West Coast in the city of Split, right next to the future hotel Ambasador is situated a pizzeria Bokamorra. The interior has a modern design with a large, sloping wall looking out. I would point out a large oven dressed in a golden mosaic: It’s maybe and the best detail in the entire interior. You can like the interior design or dislike it, it’s simply personal. I would like to notice that the place was exceptionally comfortable and clean.

Pizzeria Bokamorra Menu

If you want to compare the pizza offer in Split, we are definitely in the best place in the city. The owner of the Pizzeria Bokamorra is the same as the famous Bokeria restaurant. For these facts, we knew before the arrival that the food would be perfect. The menus were the most creative thing ever and you could see that every little detail is taken into consideration. The main offer consists of pizzas and cocktails. Their pizza flavors are as unique as their style.

There are about 10 pizzas in the offer with an average price of around 80 kuna / 10 euros. The prices may be high. It’s not so surprising to me. The reason is that in the price you pay off is the ambiance and the location. In pizzas, we were extremely delighted with the dough that is perhaps the best ingredient.

Homemade cocktail offer

The cocktails you taste here perfectly match the whole concept of pizzeria Bokamorra. You can find cocktails on the menu planned to prepare for special types of pizza. From a conceptual point of view, good access because we usually take coca-cola or beer with pizza. The cocktail is definitely something new and perfectly respond on hot summer days.

Bow down to the service

In most places, you wouldn’t expect an amazing service experience, but the bartender was so kind and helpful. It was a very unique experience. When we came to the theme of choosing pizza, we asked him for his opinion and he did very well to explain the ingredients and tastes of each of them. Very professional approach.

Terminal F, a new restaurant designed as an aerodrome in Split

Terminal F is situated on the harbor at Split, more precisely in the Tourist palace overlooking the Diocletian’s Palace. The entire interior reminds me of the airport itself. A large wooden model of the 19th Century airplane is emphasized. Also interesting is the board of the flights where you can find the best offer from the restaurant menu. Also, the signs through the restaurant have taken on the same theme. The concept itself is logical as location who is the entrance to the harbor, the bus, and the railway station.

Terminal F Split Menu

The gastronomic offer is based on fast food. From pizza, hamburgers, burrito’s to tacos. It is very good to visit in the group because they have a very good offer for group menus. We were delighted with a pizza of 1 m which is ideal for some birthday celebrations. I would recommend also 3 small hamburgers with 3 tap beeps for just 100 kunas. The hamburgers were very tasty and would recommend it to anyone visiting this restaurant.

We ate also pizzas. The best way with the name of the restaurant – Terminal F. Prices are probably a little more expensive, but considering the location and what it offers it’s customers, it seems a fair pricing structure. In principle, the offer of dishes ranges from 70 to 100 kunas. Very polite staff with the coolest outfits as pilots fit the whole story of Terminal F.

With the arrival of Christmas time and the menu offer of the restaurant is much bigger. The absolute hit of the advent is the hot chocolate of SANTA’S freak shakes. They come in a variety of flavors and we particularly like them from Nutella. In addition, GERM KNEDLA is also packed in vanilla sauce. A very popular dessert coming from Austria. I can mention also churittos, better known as a Spanish donut.

The restaurant is part of a group that still has all 3 catering facilities on the West coast of Split and since last year more and more popular destinations of many citizens of Split – Fabrique bar. On the end, Terminal F is definitely one of our favorite places for leisure at the weekend where we are always happy to return.

Zagreb Christmas Market, best in Europe 3rd time

Zagreb Christmas Market is the best Christmas Market in Europe 3rd year in a row

Like every other city in Europe, Zagreb has its own Christmas Market. The trend that started a couple of years ago and spread all over Europe found its place in Croatia. Even though it has been practiced only for a couple of years here, it has already been voted as the Best Christmas Market in Europe 3rd year in a row. It seems like it only gets better every year, with more places to visit, and more experiences to see.

The markets are spread all over the city center, on the squares and in the parks. But the most unusual one is located in the Tunnel Gric under the Upper Old Town. The tunnel decorations are trying to recreate the street from the history of Zagreb.

With that in mind, it is great to go and visit the Upper town with its beautiful view of the city at night. The most popular spot up there is the Strossmayer walkway with its beautiful houses where you can get a cup of great wine or eat hot sausage. From the square in front of Klovic palace, you can see the Cathedral with the Christmas melodies in the background.

Ban Jelačić Square

The main square is also a very popular spot for tourists to visit. There is always something happening. Either some concerts from popular artists at the main stage or some parties at the bars with a great atmosphere regarding the cold weather. You can also find unavoidable fair houses everywhere you look.

From the main square, there is a whole strip to visit all the way down to the main station. During the summer, the strip is a line of parks, green squares where people can enjoy their free time with beautiful architecture on both sides. Now, during the Christmas fair, parks adopt a lot of different events for children as well as for adults.

Advent on Zrinjevac

The first park on the way down is Zrinjevac. This big rectangular park with the arbor in the middle is decorated with thousands of lights that are climbing towards the treetops. It is really beautiful scenery especially when there’s snow. But also without snow, this park is one of my favorites. In this part of the Christmas Market, you can find some content for a more adult audience. From the middle of the park, you can hear jazz or something similar that puts us in a different time and place.

Zagreb Christmas Market – Advent on Stross

Next park on our way is called Strossmayer park. This year it must be one of the most popular stops of Zagreb Christmas Market for all the visitors. There are a lot of photo spots where you can take Christmas photos. Christmas houses surrounding the square create a beautiful and warm atmosphere with fire spots where you can get yourself warm. Again, you can hear some jazz music, but more suitable to dance to, than on the previous squares, and during the weekends, more contemporary one.

Advent on King Tomislav Square

The last, but not the least famous one is Tomislav’s square. If you have seen the promo material for the Zagreb Christmas Market, this is probably the spot that you’ve seen. The whole space is beautifully crowned with Art pavilion on the north and Main station building on the south. Through the whole park, there is an ice skating path. so it’s basically like you are taking a walk around the park while you ice skate. Beautiful Christmas lights are all over the trees. In front of the pavilion and on the walkways on both sides of a park.

Seeing all those beautiful pictures and experiencing the Christmas atmosphere all over the city we can’t help but agree that Christmas fair in Zagreb is one of the most beautiful in Europe.

Bokeria Kitchen & Wine Bar, a lovely place in the Split Old Town

Hidden in the narrow streets of Diocletian’s Palace, is located one of the best restaurants in Split, Bokeria Kitchen & Wine Bar. As an architect, the thing that caught the eye was a very nice interior. Every detail is carefully planned. The thing I liked the most was a bar with Spanish tiles as a detail while above the bar are big hams of Prosciutto as an example of local food which is typical for Dalmatia county.

The ambiance at Bokeria is superb

The core of the whole place is a big chandelier which dominates the whole space and is as big as it is through two floors. The restaurant is very chic: contemporary design with high care of the details without becoming trivial. The restaurant could easily be in NY or Milano without any adaptation.

Bokeria Kitchen & Wine Bar Menu

My girlfriend and I are faithful guests every Sunday. The most important thing is that the people are very friendly, the staff is professional and the food is excellent there. Their menu includes traditional food that is escalated and enhanced with great flavors! It’s a bit pricey, but it is worth every penny (or lipa hehe). Dishes are starting at 20$, and vines at 35$.

The dessert menu is also interesting. They bring all the dessert options in front of you instead of just a menu printed on the paper. The dessert is our favorite part of what this restaurant offers.

Excellent local wines

I highly recommend going there for local wine tasting. They offer a wide range of good local wines to try. The waiter even gave us a free taste of the suggested wine, to help us decide. We decided on local wine called Prošip. It is white wine grape, generally light bodied, around 12-13% in alcohol. The primary and most productive growing regions are on the island of Korčula with small amounts on the Pelješac Peninsula.

In the restaurant Bokeria Kitchen & Wine, every time our server was very helpful and attentive. He is always somewhere around us (and that’s the right thing to do). Like every year, Bokeria during Advent time has a special decoration. It’s getting real Christmas spirit. The thing we liked the most was the Christmas tree. It was made in an interesting way, from empty bottles of wine. We have a strong feeling that we will be back very soon.

Adriatic Design Expo will host the best furniture brands

The winter is getting closer to us, and the events in the city are just beginning. One of them is the Adriatic Design Expo Split. Since I’m an architect, an event like this is always interested in my desire to visit it.

Adriatic Design Expo was held in the Spaladium arena on 12 thousand m2 of attractive exhibition space.

Due to the large tourist investment potential that the Adriatic coast can offer this fair is inspired by the great interest of exhibitors from all around the region. More and more apartment owners find that furniture and decoration play an increasingly important role in the accommodation capacity. That is exactly why they make the largest number of visitors. Only in Split every year there are around 20 percent more tourists and that’s why the number of apartments increases.

The friend I went to the fair with is also an architect. We are both keens on interiors more and due to make us a perfect opportunity to create new contacts and get to know the design scene in the region. We were the most surprised that at the exhibition there were a large number of Slovenian and Serbian exhibitors.

This is an encouragement to all that everything is possible if you put a great effort in it and if you believe in yourself and don’t give up your dream and spread up your small production and at the same time be the encouragement for many young people who are thinking of leaving Croatia. There were many manufacturers who offer a lot of discounts on their products. This exhibition was very interesting and educational and I’m looking forward to it next year.

Park Marjan, a great walk up to the Croatian Flag and cross

Last week, my girlfriend and I took a little trip to Park Marjan, the most popular place to escape from the city bustling and chaotic pace of life. In my first three visits to this area, I saw only the beginning of the park with a beautiful view of the whole city Split. But now, we decided to go to the peak of Park Marjan.

With a coffee on the famous square Pjaca, we started our one hour climb up to a peak around 10 am. The adventure started through a passage with a lot of stairs. Actually, after just 5 minutes we had a look at the whole city. It was a point I never went forward anytime before. You can hardly find the better sight of Split’s harbor and old city. Nearby is also a cafe bar Vidilica with a splendid view.

We have continued our journey across trails through fragrant pine forests to scenic lookouts. The track was sometimes very challenging with a large incline. The last and most difficult step before the top was 314 steps. For someone in shape is not a problem, but for us, it was a difficult obstacle.

The highest peak of the Marjan hill

However, the effort was paid when we realized we were at the top, it was truly an indescribable moment. On the highest peak of the Marjan hill is a giant cross that represents the main symbol. The sky was clear and blue that day, which made a wonderful contrast between the sky and the stone cross. We took a break for a few minutes and continued this adventure.

We continued our journey in another direction to find some new thrilling things. It was a beautiful view, perfect for relaxation and of course photo shooting. On clear days, like this, you can see as far as to the island of Vis and enjoy the perfect view of beautiful channels, coasts, and islands.

The trail is extremely wide, a perfect place for walking, jogging, running or riding a bike. Moreover, rocks are also suitable for rock climbing. After more than 20 minutes of walking, we came to a small church of St.Jerome. The church is interesting because it is on the rocks. We tried to come inside but the door was locked (just because of the tourists like us, haha).

Park Marjan as the best place to take a walk and to enjoy an impressive view

Near that church, there is a wall with a bench next to it where we took a rest and just enjoyed nature. The sea view was that what really enthused us. We didn’t meet many people although it was Saturday. While walking, I thought that we were walking through some undiscovered tourist attraction. That also has its pros, and these are piece and quiet to clear your thoughts.

Cheers for reading about our Park Marjan adventure. If you have any questions about the area, tips or the photos, feel free to reach out!
