Broeinest Café Rotterdam, material library and a meeting place for architects and designers

During my internship in Rotterdam, I walked every day near this place. After a few months, the boss has convened a meeting about the company’s future at this cafe. Since we were all architects, this place was delighted for us. The Broeinest Café is a material library and a meeting place for architects and designers. This place offers much more, because here except that you can drink coffee, you can have breakfast, lunch, attend workshops or lectures. The founders of this coffee bar idea with the materials are Baars & Bloemhoff company.

Personally, I had a feeling like I had come to a coworking space. The reason is that there are closed working rooms for one person (they are also available to all visitors). The cafe also has a consultation room, sitting area as in the living room, and many different desks. The specificity of this place is that there is also a workshop with a manual tool. Although the Broeinest Café looks almost perfect for architects and designers, it is great to visit for anyone who is looking for new ideas and creative things.

Here you will find over 2500 different decorative materials. It is also very interesting that all the materials can be borrowed, as in a traditional library. Baars & Bloemhoff managed to collect this huge collection thanks to many partners. These are some of them:

This is just part of the company I found on the Internet. I believe that the list has increased to this day. But I’m sure the number of Broeinest Cafés has increased. The first was opened in Eindhoven, then in Rotterdam and recently opened in Amsterdam. Also, it will soon open in Utrecht.

Kantine Deluxe, a lovely restaurant with a modern way of food ordering

The Kantine Deluxe Restaurant is located close to Alexanderplatz and Museum Island. Since I lived near this restaurant for a year, I was a frequent guest at least 2-3 times a week. Apart from the very modern interior design, the restaurant has a very large selection of dishes at very reasonable prices.

Tablet food ordering system

The restaurant has a very unusual way of ordering. The waiter took us to the table and explained how the system works. You are ordering food and drinks using a tablet (you can choose from multiple languages). Actually, the goal of the tablet is to avoid long waiting waiters. When your meal is ready, you’ll get a notice that you have to go for it. So waiters will not bring you food but the drinks you order will get you right away. I liked the idea and it’s very easy to use.

The offer consists of a combination of local and international dishes. With dishes such as pizza, burgers, and pasta you will find many German dishes such as Currywurst or Königsberger Klopse. I’m a big fan of Wiener Schnitzel, which has always been very delicious, so I recommend it to you too. Also, the offer consists of a decent amount of vegetarian dishes. The drink list is also impressive, serving you a wonderful selection of tasty drinks from interesting lemonades to various local, but light German beers. The prices are quite average for German restaurants (not much cheaper or more expensive). In general, I think that’s okay considering the location. If it’s a warm day, it’s nice to sit outside and enjoy the view. Finally, and most importantly, the staff has always been extremely friendly!

Café Capitale Brussels, a beautiful place for a delicious coffee!

Since we had only 3 days to visit as many attractions in Brussels, finding the perfect places to have good quality coffee was a very difficult task. We decided to visit Café Capitale Brussels because of a large number of reviews with very high ratings on TripAdvisor. Café Capitale Brussels sits not far from the Bourse and Grand Place.

A coffee oasis in a big city

Seeing the displays of various method coffee preparations I already knew I was in the right place. The ordered coffee is served in a wooden tray, a little bit hipster but certainly makes this place different from others. For high-quality coffee is very important where it comes from. Café Capitale Brussels orders coffee from a Primavera coffee importer who distributes coffee around the world with coffee from Guatemala. Given that the firm strives for perfection in all stages of coffee production starting from growing trees up to the highest standards of harvesting and processing I am sure this favourite beverage will delight you. In the interior, there are not many places to sit, but they have tables outside. We also liked the music in the background that was very calming. In addition to coffee, offer also includes delicious pastries and other nice things. For breakfast, I would recommend tasty croissants.

As many have noticed, bartenders are never in a hurry, and coffee is slowly being made. To become a true barman and learn more about this drink you can apply for courses in English and French. Some of the themes are an introduction to coffee, barista skills – foundation, barista skills – intermediate, brewing – intermediate, etc. Also, the staff was very friendly. We’ll sure visit it the next time we’re in Brussels.

In fact, the entire centre of Brussels is full of similar shops, but La Belgique Gourmande really stands out from others. The reason is because of the beautiful design of the store and because of the wide range of products. Actually, the first thing that caught my eye was a very nice shop window. The store has an old charm because it is one of the oldest shops in the street.

Chocolate comes at multiple sizes, shapes, and prices. Also, you can buy chocolate with a gram, which makes it more affordable. Especially if you want to try different types of chocolate. Most of them are with the motifs of Brussels. Also, we found motifs with paintings by one of the most famous painters of the world, Magritte. I most liked boxes in the form of traditional Belgian houses, whose price is about 20 euros. The offer is also complemented by a wide selection of orangettes, florentines, mendiants, almond mixtures, candied fruit, cuberdons, caramels, babeluttes, etc.

In this store in the centre of the city, you will probably run into a crowd so don’t expect a silent, personal service. During your payment, you will probably see a beautiful old antique cash register giving this place a special atmosphere.

Mockamore Rotterdam, Let’s fake your birthday and treat yourself

During our two-day visit to Rotterdam (read the full article here), we also visited the Mockamore Rotterdam coffee shop. One of the first questions is why we just picked that cafe. Actually, my girlfriend wanted to go shopping in the city center where her favorite fashion stores are located. Since we became tired after a few hours of shopping, there was a time to rest. In search of the best place to have a good coffee, we came to the coffee bar Mockamore Rotterdam.

Let’s fake your birthday and treat yourself

The first thing you’ll notice when you enter this cafe is the big inscription on the wall “Let’s fake your birthday and treat yourself”. This inscription is a trademark of all Mokamore cafes. Except in Rotterdam, they are still in Utrecht, Almere, Rosada, Luik, and Antwerp. The biggest advantage of the café in Rotterdam was the huge double space, as well as interesting ground floor chairs. Additionally, if you want to use a laptop then this space is perfect for you because the sockets are available in many places. The same goes for newspapers that you can find in multiple locations.

Mockamore is above all a pleasant place to enjoy a cup of coffee that is available in 9 versions. Seating areas except the ground floor are located on the first floor and on the terrace. Perfect place for sitting and relaxing

The biggest disadvantage of this Caffe bar is definitely the prices. 3.55 euros for one espresso seems to be a bit too much. Like the fact that you have to order food and everything else in the bar. However, the service was quick and discreet and the staff was very friendly and profitable.

Wok24 Schiedam, give your taste buds a taste of China

If you come to Rotterdam for a few days and wonder what to visit, most of the people will tell you similar attractions and places. However, if you are wondering where to eat, then you will get very different answers. We have decided to spend the whole day on a bicycle (read the whole post here) and finish our day by visiting the historical center of Schiedam with canals and windmills. Although we encountered many restaurants with homemade food, we finally decided to have lunch at the Chinese restaurant. Its name is Wok24 Schiedam and is located in front of the large shopping mall, Nieuwe Passage.

Right here we ate the best food during our trip. You can select menu items from the menu or create your own selections of ingredients and the sharpness of the food. We took from the menu wok Chicken Teriyaki and Shanghai Beef. Both of us liked the smell, the look and the taste of wok. I’ll mention the Shanghai beef that was pretty angry, maybe even too much. Otherwise, it consists of beef cooked in black pepper sauce with a red bowl, mushrooms, green beans, and mini corn.

Also, you can choose a restaurant speciality with the same name as the Wok 24 Restaurant, consisting of shrimp with chopped garlic and chilli pepper, red onions, mushrooms, and green beans. The offer of drinks is more smoothly priced, ranging from 3 to 3.75 euros. I have to mention the very friendly staff where we ordered in English.

All of these delicious wok dishes will be found at a very reasonable price (7.5-8.5 euros). If you are staying at Schiedam for a longer time this restaurant has the possibility of delivery of meals. Caffe Booon, the place for a relaxed conversation with good coffee

The Caffe Booon is located on the north side of the Central Station in Rotterdam, only 2-3 minutes walking distance away. The reason why we came to this place is very good reviews on Tripadvisor and Facebook. Many people commented that this is the best coffee in Rotterdam. So, we have decided to check.

The street where Caffe Booon is located is pretty quiet for that part of town. Attending the coffee bar you will first notice the large windows that bring a large amount of interior light and provide you with a beautiful view from inside to the street life. The interior has a very relaxed atmosphere as the biggest advantage of this place. With a nice seating, you will feel like at home. During good weather, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air. The terrace is nice as it is sheltered from traffic and weather.

The Caffe Booon is considered as the perfect place for a relaxed conversation with good coffee. However, here you will have the opportunity to eat something. On the menu are various breakfast pastries such as croissants and premium sandwiches. Also, with gluten-free bread and good vegetarian options, this place is great for a casual lunch. The standard beverage offerings are enriched with Italian wine and tea. We recommend smoothie with the mango that delighted us.

Of course, I have to mention the extremely kind staff. As well as the fact that we didn’t have any problems with talking in English. Unfortunately, the cafe closes already at 7 o’clock, so be careful when coming. However, I believe that it will not bother you to visit this perfect place where you will surely come back during your future visit to Rotterdam.

Arrival on vacation in Split gives first of all the possibility of visiting a lot of smaller towns close to the city. I decided to visit Biograd na Moru last weekend. Although today city has only 5,000 inhabitants, in the past was very important for Croatian history as the royal city and the centre of Croatian kings and bishops. The beautiful ambience of the old Dalmatian garden

The biggest question at the beginning is why is this pizzeria so special and why it has delighted us. The answer is in the atmosphere of the Mediterranean ambience. Tables are placed among the trees where you come to enjoy the long into the night with your loved ones. Honestly, the whole ambience is imbued with a sense of warmth and home.

Pizzeria Casa Vecchia is located close to the centre of the city. More precisely in the stone courtyard of the old Dalmatian house. You will be able to enjoy top dishes, prepared from freshly made fresh foods and original Italian and Dalmatian recipes. The main offer is based on pizzas, but you will also find various types of lacing, pasta such as spaghetti or rigatoni, noodles, and rice. Also, if you want a lighter version you can always order salads.

The service was excellent – friendly and quick

Prices are EU standard, like any other pizza place nearby. For example, I paid around 8€ for a large pizza. Also, the staff is more than pleasant. I definitely recommend this place.

The interior is made in true American style with walls covered with numerous paintings and installations of American icons. I would mention a large number of vehicle registration plates of the United States. Probably the most attention attracts bull sculpture on the terrace of the building.

Near the Bačvice beach

I have already mentioned that this restaurant is located on the beach, which is one of the advantages of this place. First of all, you will be able to take a break for lunch during the whole day to stay on the beach. For this reason, the terrace has a much larger surface than the enclosed part of the restaurant itself.

Papa’s American Bar Menu

The main offer is based on American classics such as burgers, sandwiches, salads, or homemade potatoes. I would point out that they are using a large number of homemade fresh ingredients. Moreover, the greatest pride of this place is the meat that they are doing themselves. My favorite burger has the same name as the restaurant itself – Papa’s burger. In addition to standard drinks, there are various cocktails on offer. It’s important to mention that this brand of restaurants already has its own restaurant. Actually,  their first restaurant is opened to one of the most beautiful locations in Zagreb.
